Anita was born July 31, 2015 as a 26-week premature baby. Anita stayed in the NICU for 4 months. During her 1st month in NICU, she developed GBS infection, became sepsis which lead to meningitis then developed to Hydrocephalus. In October of 2015, a reservoir was placed to manage the fluid in her brain. Since the fluid kept increasing a VP shunt was placed the next month. Anita also had a stroke on the left side of her brain, and was also diagnosed with seizures.
On November of 2016, Anita was diagnosed with a rare type of Epilepsy called Infantile Spasm.
On January 25, 2017 she got RSV/Pneumonia and had respiratory failure. She was in the Pediatric ICU from January through March. She got a tracheostomy on March 3rd and was sent to rehab for 3 weeks before returning to the PICU. Anita came home on April 24th, 2017.
Currently Anita receives home nursing for 16 hours and will be receives daily therapies and interventions.
